Description

1987 Kawasaki KLR 650 with a lot of work performed on it: It is now 705cc that will put a smile on your face every time you throw a leg over it. Schnitz Racing supplied the Oversized Cylinder Liner/Sleeve. Oversized Forged Piston(88 Grams lighter than OEM Piston) and Rings. Oversized SS Valves. Springs. Valve Guides. Reusable SS Oil Filter. Iridium Spark Plug. EBC Clutch friction plates and steels. gasket set. Kawasaki ZX10 Clutch Springs. nbsp;Galfer Brake Pads- F/R. and Rear Sprocket(OEM Count- 43 Tooth). M-Tech performed all machine work. consisting of: pressing out OEM sleeve. bore jug to allow larger heavy duty sleeve and better cooling. press in new sleeve. bore/final hone for Schnitz Forged Piston (9. 7:1 Compression Ratio). gapped/file fit rings. Decked cylinder head to maintain trueness. machined head for larger valves. ported head and intake. installed new guides. installed valve springs. and shimmed/adjusted valves to OEM Camshafts. I used a Double Base Gasket under the Cylinder(per M-Tech) in order to be able to use Regular Gas.  A single Cylinder Base Gasket actually bumps up the compression just enough that it'd be Premium Fuel Only.  I've used nothing but Premium since I built it.  I've been tempted to pull out that extra base gasket.  a bump in compression means a bump in power. Eagle Mike supplied the Balancer Shaft Tensioner Lever and Torsion Spring (Doo-Hickey). carburetor screw upgrade kit. master cylinder screw upgrade kit(F). drill through sub-frame bolt kit. magnetic oil drain plug with extra sealing washers. 16 tooth front sprocket(1 tooth up over OEM). prevailing torque nut. countershaft shim kit. fuel petcock rebuild kit. and fork brace.

Warp 9 Wheels . 4. 25" x 17" rear. 3. 5" x 17" front. Shinko 705 Tires. 120/ 90/17 Front. 140/80/17 Rear. New Michelin Tubes and new liners. semi floating 320 Front Rotor and matching rear. Jet-Hot Coated FMF Power Bomb Head Pipe. DG Mid Pipe and Suppressor/Spark Arrestor. Thermo-Bob. Moose Shifter. NAPA Battery. KTM Front Fender. Heated Grips. Super Bike Mirrors. Adjustable LED Rear Brake Light Module. Handlebar End Weights. aftermarket Kawasaki EX500 turn signals are also running/park lights. I have lowered the bike approximately two in the rear and an inch and a half in the front. The following parts were necessary in this build: '99 Fuel Tank. '05 Cylinder Head. '06 Forks with Progressive Springs. '07 Cylinder. Carburetor. nbsp;and Wiring Harness.

While all the above was going on the entire bike was disassembled. The frame. sub-frame. and lower fork tubes were sand blasted and refinished with Planet Color Course Sparkling Flake. All metal brackets and upper fairing stay were sand blasted and refinished in Sherwin Williams Single Stage Semi Flat Black(eggshell gloss). I refinished the bodywork with Planet Colors Barrett Jackson Line- Jet Black. I shot Factory Similar Graphics on using Sherwin Williams Ultra 7000. all bodywork then clear coated with Sherwin Williams 950CC.  You can Google any of the above described products to get a better understanding of the Quality Components/Refinish used in this build.

This bike is as timid as a kitten around town/heavy traffic with no issues what-so-ever. Twist the throttle too hard in First and Second Gears. and the front tire is skyward. quick. but controllable. This bike has had no damage to it- before or after the build.  The Odometer is correct with Two Previous Owners. Shinko Tires have less than 200 miles on them. Straight 40# Valvoline Oil has a few hours on it. Its all I use here in Florida. Little longer warm up in January and February. Miles may increase slightly. but not after Deposit Received. I have Full Coverage Insurance(100/300) on this bike at a cost of $280 per year. This bike has been garaged since I bought it 16 months ago. It is a Hot Rod which runs and rides great. Of the 35 bikes I have owned. 6 have been KLR's. I have 2 now and have sold 2. to friends. this year. and another here on EBay a couple weeks ago. These bikes are a lot of fun on street or trail. especially hardpack. Get them in deep/sugar sand or mud. and they get heavy. fast. It'd be a BLAST on glare ice. with studded ice racing tires. I haven't done that in a few decades. but what a blast it was! Nothing like throwing rooster tails of ice powder as you power slide around a turn and into a wheelie.
