1981 KTM 495

Up for auction is one of my 1981 KTM 495's. VIN # 01124919, NG. # 15604292. This is a very rare motorcycle, s many "in the know" are familiar with. It is stock with the exception of the suspension. It has theRARE Fox Factory Forx (only 200 sets were produced. Check Thor Larsen's website), nstead of the original Marzocchi, nd Fox Shox piggybacks instead of the Ohlins. The bike runs fine with no problems and shifts through the gears. The clutch is stiff, hich was normal for this bike. This bike is not recommended for the novice or beginning rider. It is an extremely fast and aggressive bike, nd is known for theland speed record set in 1981 by Rod Bush at 123.75 mph at El Mirage lake bed in southern California. Look closely at the pictures in order to make your own assessment of the bike. My original intent was to restore the other one to "out of the crate" museum quality strictly for the bike show circuit, hile this one was to be my rider, nd I have the NOS parts to do just that. But as the old story goes, ue to economics and other circumstances, hat little dream has gone to the wayside. So, t's time to pass it all on down the line to others. Hopefully with similar intent and desire. I've had the other one for almost 32 years now, nd I currently have that one slated for a private sale. If it doesn't pan out, will list that bike also. Such is the way of things.........
The issues with the bike from my observations are: A cracked seat base. Air filter cage is not in good shape. Front wheel bearing should be replaced. Right fork weeps a little. At some point in it's past, omeone repainted the orange frame. The quality seems fine, ut the color is just a wee bit off from original, ut still looks fine.So as an incentive, nd because I feel it's the right thing to do, ncluded in the sale (from my large collection of parts) to cover the above mentioned issues, will include: A new aftermarket seat base and seat foam. An aftermarket air filter cage and air filter. Front and REAR wheel bearings (just to be on the safe side). Fox Factory Forx seal kit, long with the manual and stickers.Also included with the sale will be a brand new reproduction silencer and packing, Fox Shox rebuild kit with manual and stickers, ool kit, opies of all 3 manuals (owners, pare parts & engine parts), ND a copy of the June 1981edition of Dirt Bike magazine with the land speed test performed by Rod Bush, n excellent condition. I've previously replaced the kickstand, racket, pring and rubber bumper. Also a COMPLETE set of graphics, nd a COMPLETE set of engine gaskets, nd I had a metal plaque made with the factory specs as copied out of Dirt Bike magazine that I used at the bike shows, ll mailed out separately after close of auction and payment in full to the winning bidder. So, id high, nd often. Occasionally, ne of these shows up for auction, ut they're usually not in good shape, r they've been "over restored" and shined up too much,therefore not being correctly original. This bike will be good for the vintage racer, r for your collection. Also, his bike comes with the larger 8.3 liter tank, ot the usual 7.3 liter with metal badges. I will soon be listing my entire collection of mainly NOS engine and chassis parts (a few aftermarket or reproduction), nd anything else I have exclusively for the 1981 495 that I've been collecting over many years, o keep checking back for that.
