Description

1958 MV Agusta Raid 300

Known as the one of the winniest motorcycle manufacturers in Moto Grand Prix history. MV Agusta is one of those marques that will NEVER lose it?ˆ™s lustre and absolute collectibility. The name MV Agusta will always stand for performance on a higher level than the rest. This little MV is no exception.

In the 1950?ˆ™s there were many little Italian single-cylinder bikes running all over Italy and beyond. but few were as large and as powerful is this little machine. These were known to top out around 80mph in various states of tune and that made it stand out above most. It has all the style and some of the technology of its bigger brothers. the coolest looking performance bikes on the planet. You simply don?ˆ™t see these very often at all anymore and when you do they?ˆ™re normally not this complete or this well restored.

The details on this bike are what set it apart. Check out the cast allow front fender mount. the elegant integrated handlebars and hand-levers. the round clean engine case and cylinder. the amazing little stamped steel tool cases and of course the superbly shaped fuel tank. None did it as well as MV.

I am selling this machine for a friend who bought it restored years ago and knows very little about it other than what model it is and approximately when it was made. I?ˆ™ve done a bit of research and judge it to be a 1958 Raid 300. Engine number:  250070 Frame number: 250086

It is very obvious that machine was well loved over the years and was given some great care by someone. The engine is strong and starts on the first kick with a quick tickle of the carb. The photos easily tell the story here. From what I know of this bike and the owner. it has been started now and again. ridden around the block a few times and then simply sat in the corner on display in his house.

The details really are in the photos. The overall restoration is likely an 9 out of 10?ˆ¦only losing a bit for some knicks in the rear sprocket and a few things like the twist thottle being a bit worn. the speedo not working and the petcocks leaking when the tank is filled. (these are easily rebuilt with new rubbers)  I took close up photos of the engine so you could see just how clean it all is. The head and top end still doesn?ˆ™t even appeared to have been run. but trust me it has. I rode it just minutes before taking these photos.

I'd say this bike is a solid nice little bike and wears its age well. It catches everyone?ˆ™s eye in our shop. It cruises comfortably as any good Italian bike should and I would expect it to be a reliable around town bike with just a bit of attention and sorting. The engine sounds strong even at high revs and has a good amount of power for such an old bike.
