Description

This is a 1923 "flat tanker" Excelsior motorcycle with a 148cc Villiers engine and 2 speed gearbox. the hand change lever stamped 'Albion Gears'. I am selling this bike for a friend who is not in the best of health and the motorcycle was stored in a garage. a small distance from his house. Now the bike is with me for any potential buyer who may wish to view it (Blackpool). The bike has only 2 previous owners and it is believed the last owner restored it to a very good standard as the pictures will show. It is not in 'mint' condition but very clean. The tyres are in very good condition. not sure but doubt they are the original ones. They have plenty of tread on them and have a few cracks to the tyre walls; on the sides ' Dunlop Cord Motorcycle Extra Heavy'. It has not been started for over 35 years so I put some petrol in the tank with an oil mixture (10-1) and gave it a push up the road. It fired a few times but didn't start up fully. There's a good spark to the plug. so it won't take much to get it running. The V5 registration document is present and states the bike was first registered 01/08/1979. I think this is when the previous owner registered it before the 'cut off' date regarding the old style log book. The registration number has two letters and 4 numbers NW ****. For some reason the present owner does not want the numberplate showing on the photographs (don't know why) but the reg number belongs to the bike and IS transferable. I found a very similar bike. an Excesior Junior. on the internet which was sold by Bonhams on 29th April 2012 (lot 238) for ?4370. Asking price ?4250 ovno. Tel Chris (Blackpool) 07813 395055.
