1955 AJS 18 CS 500cc An original and rare competition jampot model. Engine number 55/18S 1858 C Frame number 5523 C A Barn find. which will provide a good basis for a restoration. The bike is mostly complete and includes the correct alloy barrel engine. The head has new valve seats installed. Lucas competition magneto. alloy petrol tank with the correct for year splayed rear mounting legs. The frame appears to be straight and true. the engine is missing a piston (which would likely be replaced in restoration anyway). most other parts are there (see photos). The engine was stored indoors. the cycle parts have spent some time outside in a dry High Plains climate and therefore where there is rust. it is only a light surface coating. Principal items missing are the mudguards and stays. exhaust system. nbsp; carburettor. correct seat. primary chain covers. and handlebar controls. The gearbox presently does not turn over. . Parts are easily obtainable from a number of AJS/ Matchless specialists parts including AMC Classic Spares. Andrew Engineering. Russell Motors and The AJS and Matchless Owners Club - an excellent club offering full support for AJS owners. Many new and used parts are also available on Ebay. The machine requires a complete and thorough restoration but with the excellent parts supply available it is a viable renovation prospect and will make a rewarding. versatile and rare riding machine.
