Description

I am selling one of my Maico 490's. This is a nice solid bike which consists of an 81 frame and an 82 motor (81 and 82 motors are identical). I have had this bike in the collection for many years.   It was originally purchased to put in the collection and down the road I planned on turning it into a museum piece like my other Maico's. At this point in my life plans have changed and I am selling off some of my vintage bikes to scale back. I will be listing a few other vintage/evo bikes in the next week or so.

Gassed her up and she fired with 2-3 kicks. The bike runs and shifts as it should.  I have listed as much info as I can remember below. If you are a Maico fan you already know its tough to find these in decent shape. This is pretty much a gas and go bike as it sits. If you plan on racing it I would have the shocks charged with nitrogen. They seem low but that is because this bike has been sitting in a collection for years. This bike was started a few times a year then fuel drained. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have. I would be happy to answer them. I realize this is quite a bit of money so I am open to spreading out to a two part payment to make things easier on the buyer as long as we discuss and agree on the terms.

*** I have had several people email me about the plastic - just to clarify all of the plastic is New (Tank. side covers. front/back fenders & decals)

Note: I have a set of Fox piggyback shocks listed on Ebay so if you prefer those instead of the Ohlins that can be an option. unless they sell first.

Motor - the previous owner had all bearings and seals replaced and a top end was done as well. There are virtually 2-3 hrs of run time on the motor.  Still has stock ignition. She usually fires in a few kicks if you properly fill the Bing carb bowl prior to kicking her over and get the kicker in the right spot before giving her a good kick. Motor runs strong and shifts as it should. This motor has quite a bit of compression so it will take a strong leg to kick her over even with a compression release. Wheels - rear rim is the stock Akront and the front rim has been replaced at some point with a Sun rim. Tires are 95% new. Wheels seem to be straight with no problems. Front spokes will probably polish up pretty nice . back spokes are not as nice. Frame: frame is straight and I don't see any repairs on it. Freshly painted prior to me purchasing it. Foot pegs a super snug with no play. They have new springs and bolts Suspension: Forks seem to be pretty good and I dont see any leaks. The bike came with Works shocks which I replaced with a set of Ohlins piggy backs I had. As you might know these are 1. 00 dollar shocks. The springs have some chain wear which is unavoidable with maico's. Shafts look excellent. no leaks but  they will need to be rebuilt prior to racing. Exhaust - the pipe is stock and looks like it has had a few welds in its lifetime which are common with thee bikes. Silencer is aluminum. Body work: this bike has all new plastics including gas tank. petcock and cap. Carb: carb is the stock Bing and works fine. I did notice the float bowl gasket was leaking a bit but I have a new one for it. Seat - new seat foam and cover and seat base. Brand new folding shift lever Controls - cables are in working order and there are newer bars. Magura perches and levers on this bike. Decals: They are the heavy duty high quality decals and are all new.   New billet chain guide New billet case saverNew billet ignition coverNew rear T sprocket & sprocket boltsNew 520 chain

SHIPPING:  costs and arrangements are the responsibility of the buyer. I dont mind holding the bike for a while once it is paid for. I realize it takes time to make shipping arrangements and I want to make this a stress free experience for the buyer. I do have a pretty good list of shippers I would be happy to pass on to you.

INTERNATIONAL BUYERS - I have several Over sea's Shipping services that I can refer you to that will crate and ship to countries like Australia. New Zealand. UK as well as other country's in Europe if you require those services.

PAYMENT: A  nonrefundable deposit of 200. 00 is due within 48 hrs of the auction ending.  Balance payment is due within 7 days of the auction ending. I will accept the balance of payment in the following ways-Bank transfer. cash in person. Bank of America cashiers check or USPS money orders.
