Description

2002, MW Dakar - Checked out, nd exceptionally clean.

My Dakar is extraordinarily clean, nd well-maintained. The ’02 Dakar is one of the most popular Dakars ever built. It has the Austrian-built, otax motor in it. My bike has been very well maintained by a professional motorcycle mechanic. It’s low-mileage, t only 29,572. - I am the second owner and got it from a retired guy in Las Vegas. I kind of have the same problem he had… - Even though I’m a stout 70, t’s still too much for me. My loss is your gain.

The guy I got it from bought it brand new, nd always had it “dealer-serviced” with fresh oil and filters, very 3,000 miles - always with Mobil-1 synthetic. When I got it, did the same. – It has a new NGK spark plug, ew K & N oil/air filter, adiator recently flushed, nd replaced with new BMW coolant. Brakes flushed and new Dot-4 added. - All nuts/bolts/and fasteners were checked and either tightened up or (where necessary) torqued to factory specs. There are no leaks of ANY kind, NY-where. Going with the bike is all my service manuals and documents. The ONLY blemish on the bike is some light scraping on the side-cases.. WB10183A42ZF70761

I had the bike returned to ‘Factory Specs’ with new:

-brake pads, ront/rear
-bearings, ront/rear
-spark plug, NGK-iridium)
-K & N air filter
-K & N oil filter
-Mobil-1 Synthetic oil

I added the following “after-market” parts:
-after-market ‘HD’ chain
-after-market rear sprocket
-after-market front sprocket
Here’s how “Motorcycle News” magazine (a motorcycle reference magazine) put it…
“…It seems everyone wants a piece of Paris-Dakar glamour these days. And few bikes hanker after it as much as BMW’s Dakar-styled dual-purpose F650GS “Dakar”. When it was launched in 2000, he F650 Dakar was acclaimed as the world’s most technologically advanced ‘single’.
Testament to this are its fuel-injected motor, lectronic management system and catalytic converter, ightweight and switchable optional ABS and the fitting of the 4.1 gallon fuel tank under the seat in the traditional air-box location for better weight distribution (the oil is stored where the fuel tank ordinarily is). Yet for all its sophistication, he F650 Dakar “user-friendly” both to maintain and to ride. It’s an entry-level bike to introduce riders to Beemers.
Overall the ‘Dakar’ is a VERY fun bike. It gets great mpg ... upper 50s easily. Has power to do highway speeds (i.e. 75 mph) easily. Throttle is beginner friendly, ard to get into trouble with the bike. ABS system engages in a friendly manner. For a "dual sport", he seat height is friendly, nder 30". The BMW Dakar is a great Beginner/Intermediate bike -- and/or a VERY GOOD second bike…” – Chris Myers
