History of the 1957 A10 Spitfire Scrambler:

This particular bike has significant differences from the A10 Scramblers that followed (1958-1963).

1. The 1957 Spitfire began production using a Gold Start frame. About half way through the first production year, SA switches to a modified A10 frame which did not have a steering lock or mounting loops for passenger foot pegs.

2. All 1957 models used Gold Star front and rear brakes. The front brake plate is aluminum and the rear is chrome plated.

3. The 1957-1958 models did not use the short Scrambler seats, hey used the longer dual seat.

4. 1957 and 1958 models did not use high level exhaust pipes. They used straight through down pipes which extended to the mid-point of the swing arm.

5. BSA started using the high level pipes in 1959 and continued through 1963.

6. Optional for the 1957 model was a rear seat grab rail and a generator lighting kit.

7. 1957 model did not use an air filter

8. 238 Spitfire engines were built in 1957. The first engine number was #CA10SR101 and the last for 1957 was #CA10SR339.

9. BSA BUILT 226 Spitfire frames in 1957. The first frame number was #CA7A101 and the last frame number was #CA7A327.

10.The days of pre-unit Spitfire Scramblers, 1957-1963), ngine and frame numbers were not the same when they left the factory. To acquire a dating certificate to certify engine and frame numbers that left the factory as a unit, ontact ‘BSA Owners Club of England’. They have BSA Factory Dispatch Records.
