Description

1953 Matchless 350cc  G3C replica

Here is a cracking 350cc Matchless Trials rep in sweet running lively condition.

It is a very good starter with recently rebuilt N1 magneto. The engine sounds beautiful with no knocks or rattles and it goes really well too for a 350!

The bike sounds awesome on the open pipe. It’s not actually that much louder than a standard 350. - I’m sure nobody would mind if you ran it like that on the road (unless you live next door to the HQ of the Noise Abatement Society!)

Please note it would probably need a “bobby-dodging” speedometer to be road legal. a good standard speedo drive is already fitted to the rear wheel.

The gearbox and clutch as well as half width brakes are all good. The bike rides very steadily on slippery roads and has road gearing. It would make a good green -laner or could be modified further for out & out trials use. (Only really needs a lower engine sprocket to bring the gearing down)

The bike is road registered as 1953 manufactured. Registration number is 605 UYJ (cannot be transferred to another vehicle).

Frame number is 97775. engine number is 55/18S 28445 (these numbers match the V5C doc). It is pre-1960 MOT exempt and is registered for historic class (free) road tax.

Cosmetically the bike is very good for a Trials machine.

The paint on the frame is good enamel. The tank is a really beautiful alloy competition type. Front rim is 21” with good but not as new chrome. Rear is 19” also with good rim and both have nice clean “rustless” spokes. Tyres are standard road legal trials type. Barums and are virtually unused.

The cylinder head has had a fin repaired (very well) but there is a chunk missing out of the cylinder barrel bottom fin and a chip off its top fin also.

The fork top yolk is the desirable alloy type with the equally sort after lightweight (flat) bottom yolk. There is no dynamo fitted but the standard provision is there and it would therefore be very straight-forward to fit a dynamo & lighting kit.

The exhaust has good chrome and the seat is in good condition.

So don’t miss this superb opportunity to  own an eye-catching sporty Matchie in the well respected G3C style. This bike really captures the period in both style & sound. With a little work it could be made into an out-and-out trialer or a fully road legal street scrambler or green-laner!

Don’t miss this  superb Matchless Trial rep.
