Description

Norton ES2 500cc 1955 on the road - Great runner - Oily rag conditionOwned since 2011when I bought it from Richard Gaunt. its been on the road for 3 years doing work to it as necessary. I am only selling it as I desperately need the room. Its an easy starter and sweet runner and has a steady tick-over. no mechanical noises or smoke. Its ideal for someone who wants a bike to ride "as is" and without having too many worries about cosmetics. Its a lovely ride as well; Very characterful with bags of torque at low revs. The gearbox is in excellent order with smooth. clean changes every time and easy neutral selection.  The Smiths 120 mph Chronometric speedometer is working well although the trip reading has a mind of its own! It looks dull and faded inside the glass making it a bit difficult to read. The mileage may go up from that in the photo as I am still riding it. The electrics are all working well with a good charge from the original 6 volt set-up Lucas dynamo. A new Cyclon battery was fitted in 2012 and some of the wiring was renewed as required. I also fitted a used set of indicators to help prevent blind motorists from 'rubbing me out'!Some parts are not original. like the mudguards which are Commando stainless steel and the Gold Star silencer which has seen better days but is still effective although a small hole has appeared which needs brazing up. The paintwork on the headlamp. toolbox and oil tank is a bit scruffy. The fuel tank had been re-painted well but had a few scratches from a tank bag by the look of it. Also. you will see that the paint has bulged on the left side although it hasn't got any worse this year. Both rims are Dunlop the front has good chrome. the rear poor so I just lacquered it to stop it rusting. This year I have fitted a new Dominator clutch chainwheel. backing plate. friction plates & cush rubbers. all off RGM. New centre stand was supplied to me by Mark Blundell 2012. New fork seals & stanchions from Norvil fitted this year. New 18T gearbox sprocket. oil pipes. remote oil filter kit all off Norvil 2013. Monobloc 389 carb parts from Hitchcocks. The magneto was fully re-conditioned by Brightspark Magnetos in February 2012. New Dunlop K70s and inner tubes fitted February 2013. Frame number: 65456.  Engine number: 93194  so its a 1960 ES2 engine in what was originally a 1955 Model 50. The last MOT (no longer needed) ran out in June 2013 and it is taxed (free) until June 2015 although under the new system you will have to re-tax it. The V5 is in my name and the reg. no is transferrable:  626YUG. If you have less than 10 Feedback please contact me before before bidding or your bid may be removed. Please do not bid if you do not have the funds to pay or need the other-half's permission!Cash on collection preferred.  No returns. Viewing in North Shropshire is highly recommended and if you have any questions I will try and answer them through Ebay. Please be able to collect the bike promptly if you win it as I desperately need the space. This is an ideal all weather classic. A sweet runner that you can use and not worry about getting wet or dirty!A great opportunity to enjoy one of the most sought after British singles of the period - Don't miss it!HAPPY BIDDING!
