Description

This is a very rare 1975 Norton 850 Commando Hirider with Electric Start, nd one of only 50 made during 1975, hich was the last year of the Hirider. The Hiriders in general are extremely rare, ecause so many people took the seats off and changed the frames and installed the standard bench seats because let's face it---they weren't exactly conducive to hauling your significant other around very far!! When we received this bike for our collection, ocumentation was given to us in regards to the 50 bikes made in 1975, nd we had research done through the VMCC in England which verified the situation, s only 50 electric start Hiriders were ever made. The great thing about this one is the electric start actually works! When we got it---not so much! But we took the starter out and had it professionally rebuilt from a 2-brush to a 4-brush starter and updated to solid state electrics and a gel-cell battery. Now, he bike starts instantly and runs incredibly well! The Vintage Motorcycle Certification Service had given the bike an overall grade of 3+ (1 is a perfect score). The paintwork is fine; the chrome is nice, lthough you can see some fading in a few spots. There is some wear for a motorcycle that is 41 years old, ut nothing that affects the operating ability of the motorcycle. This motorcycle is part of the Motorcycle and Model Railroad Museum collection. It is stored in a climate-controlled, eated environment and all bikes here are maintained by our staff of professionals to run, s they are used in events and fundraisers. This bike's last long ride was on a 100 mile charity ride through Northeastern Wisconsin in October, hough it has been ridden monthly since then through December. All bikes in the collection receive oil change and cable/fluid service every 1,000-3,000 miles depending on riding conditions. The seat on this bike is soft and supple; the tires have good rubber. The battery is excellent and only a year old. Each year, he M & MRM sells a few motorcycles that we have two or more examples of so as to raise funds for other bikes for the collection or to raise funds for our new building fund. This is an amazingly rare bike that any vintage motorcycle aficionado or expert would be proud and honored to have in his or her collection, nd would turn heads on a ride or at a show!
