1968 Velosolex 3800 iconic French moped in excellent running order

I have for sale this very tidy black 1968 Velosolex 3800 iconic French moped in excellent running order and ready to use.

After the second world war the French government needed a cheap vehicle to get the country mobile again at the lowest possible cost. The Velosolex. launched in 1946 fitted the bill perfectly. So popular was it that in the following thirty years over 12 million were built!

This example was built in 1968 and is a square frame 3800 model. These are the easiest Solexes to own and use as they have the strongest and most reliable engines and the most plentiful parts availability. I use one of these daily and they really are great fun and return about 180 mpg with a top speed of about 25 mph (on the flat). Hills are not a Solexes friend!!

The condition is very tidy with the normal marks and surface rust that you would expect of a 46 year old bike that has never been restored. It looks just right for its age and it would be a shame to restore and destroy its patina. The paintwork is original. The plastic engine covers are all in good order and not cracked or broken. The saddle is in excellent condition. The chrome. whilst not perfect is quite acceptable considering its age.

Mechanically it is in excellent running order having had a thorough engine overhaul with new bearings etc. The bike starts within one metre as a good Solex  should. The tyres have plenty of tread and the brake cables have been replaced. The front and back lights work so the bike is ready for a UK MOT if you wish to register it.

These bikes did not require registering in France until recently so there is no log book with the bike. I will supply a French cession de vehicle certificate and a receipt in French and English that will make registering a straight forward affair. I can talk the winning bidder through the process.

Please note that the bike is at present in the town of Chabris in the Indre department  (36) of central France. For a price of £40 I can arrange delivery to the Worthing area just after the end of the auction. Other delivery destinations are available but please email me for a price. Alternatively you are welcome to come here to collect the bike and I will offer the winning bidder one nights free accommodation in our B&B.
